Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo: Igbo apprenticeship system modernization committee is formed by Ohanaeze.

A commission to update the Igbo apprenticeship system has been established by Ohaneze Ndi Igbo Worldwide, the leading Igbo sociocultural organization.

Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo

During a news conference on Sunday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, announced that Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, a prominent pharmacist and former presidential candidate, will lead the committee.

Iwuanyanwu stated that although the Igbo apprenticeship system had given many Igbo people more authority, contemporary circumstances had undermined the institution.

He added Ohanaeze made the decision to modernize the system because of this.

“This apprenticeship system is very indigenous to Nigeria,” stated Iwuanyanwu. In other words, when an Igbo guy starts a business, he brings on three or four employees, some of whom may be his relatives.

“He provides them with food, shelter, and clothing, but he withholds their salaries.” He will settle them at the conclusion of their sentences; this is known as Idu ulo.

He is going to give them money—that is, the total amount of money that they ought to have received in compensation. After that, the individual will open his own company and hire a new group of individuals to work as his apprentices.

It exhibits a geometric development in a little amount of time. That explains the great prosperity of the Igbo people.

“Today, in Nigeria, the Igbo people’s inventiveness is evident in the dominant positions they hold in business throughout the country.

The system is no longer as effective as it once was. Over time, things have evolved. Be aware that the structure has to be updated because it is outdated. Ohaneze will figure out how to update it.

“Ohaneze has appointed Sam Ohuabunwa as head of the committee on business. They have an obligation to find a way to modernize it. Although the material was rudimentary, it accomplished the desired goal. However, the Ohuabunwa committee can now find a modernized way to enable it to function.

The factionalization of the organization was also refuted by the Ohanaeze President-General, who said that those promoting the story were just in it for the financial gain.

“There is no faction,” he declared. I, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, am the President General, chosen by unanimous vote of all citizens.

“The first time, I was the only one who had everyone’s support. All the people, five South-East governors, backed me.

“Now, some are using this factionalization claim to their advantage in order to make money.”

Iwuanyanwu declared that Ohanaeze will keep up its defense of Igbo interests across the globe, with the exception of those who are engaged in illegal activity.
